Hailing from Round Rock, Texas, LapLogic has been churning out laptop cooling accessories since 2003. A privately held company, LapLogic utilizes state of the art technology and materials, making no bones that this approach will often lead to higher priced albeit "best in class" products. You can't help but admire the company's no nonsense approach to business, which puts a greater focus on the product than it does on marketing. And having a sense of humor doesn't hurt, either.

"Our philosophy is simple: our customers do not want cheap products, they want quality products. And that is all we sell. We might not be the least expensive, but we firmly believe we are the best in class at what we do. Our company values are simple: treat people as you want to be treated. Make the world a better place. And, if you can't have fun at work, what's the point?."  Read more...

Cooling devices designed for notebooks come in either one of two flavors - passive (thermal pads and lap desks) and active (USB powered fans). The superior method remains a point of hot debate (no pun intended), however one thing proponents of both sides can agree on is that a laptop needs to be cooled, method be damned.

And thus the LapLogic W800 Aerogel Extreme enters the fray, firmly planting itself in the passive cooling arena. The first thing we noticed from removing the W800 from its packaging is that it's extremely lightweight. At 26 ounces, the portability potential of this product is enormous, somewhat crippled by its large footprint. The bottom of the W800 is covered with ScotchGuard coated ballistic nylon, which is overlaid by two black padded areas on either side of the unit. These black areas are where your legs will go when you lay the W800 on your lap.

New to this model is a media holder in the form of a plastic pocket on the bottom-center of the unit, suitable for holding CD's, DVD's, and business cards. One of the more unique features of the W800 is that it uses non-slip material to ensure that the lap desk does not slide off your legs. This material has a bit of a tacky feeling to it, and when placed on a counter top or on top of our legs, we were unable to get the W800 to slide without using excessive force.
